Thanksgiving update

I've been back to work full time since the end of October. My new wheelchair arrived mid-October. It's great to have a light set of wheels! Bathroom renovations are underway. I'm looking forward to taking a shower every day. It seems like the insurance company won't authorize more occupational therapy so I'm doing exercises at home as best I can. I had a driving evaluation in October and am in the process of completing 20 hours of driver training with hand controls. The goal is to be able to drive independently in a modified van of some kind. I'm looking forward to my brother and his family, my sister and her family, and my mother coming up to visit tomorrow. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. Thank you to everyone involved in the bathroom renovations.

Back to Work

I'm back to work 5 hours a day and doing occupational therapy three times a week. I attended Dana's first marching band competition of the year last night.
It looks like our bathroom renovation will be happening soon. The ramp, landscaping, and sidewalk work that was done before my return home look and work great. Thank you to everyone who participated in these projects.
The car wash, golf tournament, and casual day fundraisers were great opportunities to see friends. We thank everyone around the area who participated and organized these events.

Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers.

Silent Auction

The fundraiser last night was the best therapy session that I've had in the past three months! I haven't smiled that much in a long time. Thank you to Meg, Kay and everyone involved in organizing the event. 13 days and counting until discharge day.....

Another week!

Hi all!

I had a great day on Wednesday! Lyn, Brad and Dana were here most of the day and also four friends from work came down to visit and spent a couple hours here. I enjoyed every minute.....

I have been doing a lot of mat work this week. Mat work involves practicing transfers from a wheelchair to the mat, moving your legs from the side of the mat to the top of the mat, moving your body position from back, to side, to side, to stomach, working on maintaining balance in a sitting position, etc. All challenging stuff, but definitely rewarding when you notice an improvement in your strength and technique.

I just moved to a new room this afternoon. I moved from room 9B to 8A. The hospital is expecting two new admissions this afternoon and wanted to free up my room for the admissions. 8A is a private room... BONUS!

I want to thank everyone involved in the yard sale this weekend! I can't tell you how much we appreciate the hard work involved in organizing and holding the event. I hope that everything goes smoothly and the event is a success!

Looking forward to the weekend!

Progress

Hello everyone!

Things are continuing to go well at rehab. My physical therapist said today that she is pleased with my ability to re-position myself in bed. As a result, we may be able to avoid renting a hospital bed when I return home.

My occupational therapist wants Lyn and I to do an overnight stay in a sample apartment here in order to assess our ability to function without assistance from the nurses or aids here at the hospital. I am looking forward to this challenge!

That's all for now... take care!
